Cue the sunshine, please!

I should have written more this month regarding "Sunshine Week," which strives to encourage open government at all levels. It's not a particularly sexy topic -- but one to which we need to pay more attention as we find more and more government officials believing that openness is an albatross hampering their work.

I was reminded of this today as I read through a piece written by Gene Policinski, vice president and executive director of the First Amendment Center. He is a veteran journalist whose career has included work in newspapers, radio, television and online operations. His article observes that "Closed Door Government Lacks Key Ingredient: Us!"
