A long-time and well-known broadcaster in the Black Hills region has passed away. 74-year-old Larry Dirksen was a native Iowan who found his way first to Pierre (KCCR), Sioux Falls (KSOO) and eventually to Rapid City (KOTA). He died from cancer.In addition to his radio experience, he had served as Public Information Director for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. According to his obituary, he had also performed in the Passion Play at Spearfish in years past.
I was not acquainted with Larry Dirksen, but I knew him from his newscasts on KOTA Radio, and it was always clear that he was a professional.
